Cardiac Attacks! Terrell Tames Tigers.

In what was perhaps the biggest game of the year against one of the best teams in the league, The Cardiac Kid had his best game of the year, leading the Tiburon Diamondbacks to an 9-8 upset victory against the second place Tigers.

"Eli's Coming" Arrick led off the game by reaching first on an error.  He then advanced to third by stealing two bases.  The Big O struck out Noah Arrick, and with one out, Eli tried to steal home but was out on a great play by Cardiac Terrell.  The Big O struck out Action Jackson Barry to end the inning and hold the Tigers scoreless.
 

The DBacks capitalized on their defensive momentum by scoring three runs in the home half of the first.  The Big O led off with a single and Thurman walked, setting up Cardiac for the first of his two doubles and knocking in the Snakes first run.  Say Hey Sine then grounded to short scoring Thurman and moving Cardiac to third.  

Cardiac then stole home for the Snakes third run of the inning.

The Big O then proceed to strike out the side in the next two innings, keeping the Baby Backs in the game.  

Eli's Coming Arrick shut down the DBacks through the second and was helped by great defense at second base.  

The Backs stormed back to take the lead in the third inning by scoring four runs. The Sultan of Swat led off the inning by getting hit on the leg with a pitch and saying to Coach O on his way down to first, "That didn't hurt that bad."  The Big O followed with his second single, and after Eli got Thurman on strikes, Cardiac came through with another double, knocking in both Sultan and The Big O. Say Hey then singled to knock in The Cardiac Kid.  Say Hey stole second and then advanced to third on Big Money's single.  From third, Say Hey stole home to put the DBacks ahead 7-6.

The scoring barrage made the Tigers' catcher wonder what was in the DBacks bats.

The Cardiac Kid came in to pitch in the fourth with a one run lead and the DBack Nation thinking upset.  He quickly got the first two outs of the inning, but allowed a walk to Dylan "Hank" Hankamer, who eventually scored when Jackhammer could not handle Thurman's throw from catcher when Dylan stole third.  Cardiac got the next batter on strikes, but the Rattlers failed to score and the game was now tied at seven going into the top of the fifth and the heart of the Tigers' order coming up.

Eli's Coming did not disappoint the many Tigers' fans who had made the long trip to cheer on their team.  He led off what would be the last inning with a double, putting the go ahead run in scoring position.  Robbie "Willie" Wilson struck out, but in that AB, Eli tried to steal third.  Thurman's throw was late to third and missed by Jackhammer, allowing Eli to score the go ahead run.  Noah Arrick then hit a wicked one hopper to first that took a nasty hop.  The Big O, however, snagged it and beat Noah back to the bag for the second out. Action Jackson then walked as did Big Ben Lanyadoo, setting up the play of the game.  Jackson stole third, and again the throw from Thurman went past Jackhammer.  Jake did not quit and the play, and ran an fielded the ball in shallow left field as Jackson was rounding third and coming home.  Jackhammer threw a strike to Thurman who nailed Jackson at the plate for the third out.

The momentum of that play carried into the Diamondback dugout.  Although the Snakes were trailing by one run, the team was not thinking about a tie, but rather a win.  But standing between them and their goal was one of the best pitchers in the league:  Jackson Barry.

Thurman led off the inning and managed to stroke a single through the infield on a tough pitch from Jackson.

 

Thurman worked his way to third by stealing two bases, and allowing The Cardiac Kid to step up to the plate again.  Cardiac promptly nailed a single to knock in Thurman and tie the game. 

Cardiac now represented the winning run with Say Hey Sine stepping up to the plate.  Willie swung and missed the first pitch to get behind in the count.  He hammered the next pitch through the infield for a single moving the winning run to second base.

Big Money Ben then stepped up the plate.  After taking the first pitch, Cardiac danced off second and as the ball was coming back to the pitcher and started to steal third base.  Jackson was not yet on the mound and threw the ball to third to try to get Cardiac at third, but the ball got past the third baseman and Cardiac sprinted home for the win.

After the win against the Braves, the entire Diamondbacks team and coaching staff vowed to stop shaving as long as they kept winning.  That's better than not washing your socks.

Coaches Austrian and Mavromihalis did not seem to care, nor did the players. 

The sponsor of the Diamondbacks, however, was not pleased by the Coach O's "new look" induced by his superstition and has threatened immediate action (or the lack thereof). 


The DBacks return to action this Monday to play a make-up game from a their rain-out of their previously scheduled game against the A's.  Game time is 5 pm with players arriving at 3:45 pm.
