Backs' Bats Bomb Braves

The Tiburon Diamondbacks stopped a six game losing streak by crushing the Braves 19-9. The win puts the Backs in a position to control their own playoff destiny and has temporarily quieted rumors of a change in management.

The Cardiac Kid started the game at pitcher and was helped in the first inning by there putouts by The Big O who was playing first base ,unable to pitch because of his 85 pitch effort against the Red Sox last week. It was the Diamondbacks first three up three down inning since game two against the Tigers. Cardiac went on to handcuff the Braves for three innings, allowing no runs, one hit, striking out 5 and walking one and got great defensive help in the field.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Snakes exploded for 12 runs in the first three innings. The Big O lead off with the first of his four singles and was doubled to third by Thurman. Cardiac walked to load the bases and Say Hey, Big Money and Jackhammer followed with singles scoring four runs. The Braves only recorded one out in the first inning, which was CC's RBI ground ball, which scored the fifth run.

In the Snakes half of the second, the scoring continued. Downtown walked, SamllMatt hit the first of his two singles and Connie Mack and The Sultan of Swat both walked to load the bases for The Big O who singled in a run. Thurman and Cardiac both followed with singles running up another four runs for the Baby Backs.

In the fourth inning, The Big O singled and worked his way to third with two steals. With second half rules in effect, O started to harass Mad Max Fenema building bigger and bigger leads until he pulled off a delayed steal of home to make the score 13-0 and put the game out of reach.

In addition to bringing their bats and showing great discipline at the plate, the Backs also brought great disciple to their potty breaks. For the first time this season, there was only one official potty break. coming in the first inning. When asked about this paucity of potty breaks, Coach O said, "I can't explain it. Maybe they are just not telling me." The Diamondbacks also managed to field a full team for the entire game, which was also a first this season.

The strength of the win quieted temporarily rumors that the front office was looking for a replacement for Coach O. "We can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of any so called rumors which we have not heard of, and we cannot be responsible for any inferences draw from, whether express or implied, these rumors in the event that they exist. Objects in mirrors are larger than they appear and past performance is no guarantee of future success." said an unnamed front office spokesperson speaking on the condition of anonymity.

Notwithstanding this "statement," Clint Hurdle was seen coming out of the Diamondbacks headquarters.

Next two weeks will be critical for the Diamondbacks. After facing the second place Tigers, the Snakes face the A's twice and then the Cubs. Wins in the next four games would likely vault the DBacks into sixth place over the A's and Cubs.

The Baby Backs play again this Tuesday at the Friendly Confines, where they will be home against the Tigers. The game should feature a classic pitching duel between The Big O and Action Jackson Barry. Good seat are still available. Use public transportation if possible and please drive safely.
